Edge Takes Up Huge Amounts Of Memory

At times my computer bogs down horribly. Loading Taskmanager, which can take several minutes, shows Edge taking up 1gb of memory (more or less). It is usually 100mb or so.

I have two other computers using Edge, and they seem fine.

Is there any fix for this?

I don't like Edge at all... with the "scam" pages that a lot of people run into (some audible, some just warn that you have a virus and always offer a toll free number to call, most of the time posing as Microsoft) Edge is the most vulnerable to these. This isn't to say that you run into the pages more, I mean the pages are far more difficult to get rid of than other browsers. At least 33% of my calls per day as a tech support rep were those "scam" pages, and if they were using Edge, it was horrible. I don't like it at all. Terrible browser. Just my opinion.

Google chrome is a brilliant and fast browser with quite a catalogue of extensions but you must have computer resources to cope with google chrome as you notice in task manager you will see multiple instances of chrome as each extension and tab loads up this is to prevent the entire browser from crashing and just the webpage or extension

On my wife's computer, where 2 windows of Edge could take all the memory, I opened up 8 Chrome windows. They were fine, at 68% of memory being used. I had two windows of Youtube going, and they were normal.
Hopefully that means I have adequate computer resources? Yes?

Yes your computer is fine. But you will notice if the computer gets slow and sluggish is when you are low on system ram. What amount of memory have you got at the moment?

4gb, but I don't have to ever have 8 windows open. I did it just to see what happened.

The OP has two PCs using Edge without problem.
I, and many others, have PCs using Edge without problem.
So, if the OPs third PC is having a problem with Edge how can the problem be caused by Edge?

Edge is part of the OS, it only takes one buggy Windows Update to cause issues like that. Any lingering malware remnants might also cause similar effects.

Your 2 out of 3 machines theory can only be applied to 3 completely identical computers, hard- and software, on clean installs. Once any PC has been used for a couple of hours, it's very unlikely to be the same as the next machine off the assembly line would be after similar usage.

I'd be looking at the latest updates and 3rd party installations, just a WU for the graphics, or an AV update might be behind this recent issue. Also for malware remnants.
