    hi,

i am trying to get my mandriva 2008 and w2k to dual boot but i have come to a dead end,
i know i can dual boot through grub in the mbr with no problem, but i would rather it go through ntldr,
this is what i have done so far -

2 sepparate hdd's, one with w2k, one with linux - both work
w2k set to master, linux set to slave, used bootpart but it will not edit my boot.ini
w2k set to master, linux set to cable select, used bootpart but it will not edit my boot.ini

    gave up,
    doing it this way

swapped drives around (to use grub to 'see' my w2k
linux set to master, w2k set to slave, (now i have a problem), i have tried to edit my menu.lst but it won't let me, i can't seem to login as root either, i can login to system tools and change bits in there as root, but i can't edit the file,
is there something i am missing,

this is what i (think) i need to write in

    title windows
    map (hd0,0)
    map (hd1,0)
    rootnoverify (hd1,0)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1

    thanks for any help

Since you've had no replies I thought I'd chip in with a sort of redirect...

You might want to try a linux IRC channel. I've been using #suse and ##windows on irc.freenode.net recently and got some very useful help. I've just had a look and they have a #mandriva channel too - I see a lot of people on the user list which is sometimes a good sign so maybe you would want to give that a shot. In the time I've had it open it hasn't seemed like a busy channel, very little being said, but it might be of some use to look. Also maybe try other servers.

    Good luck.

    hi,

thanks for the info, just had a look in see if i had any replies

i think i have it sorted now, to edit my menu.lst all i have to do is type (in a terminal)

    kdesu "kwrite /boot/grub/menu.lst"

    and up it pops

Nice that you post the solution too - always helps for completeness when people are searching for a similar problem.
    Glad it's sorted.
