I put an old movie through the AVI video converter.Moved it to a file. Moved file to Windows movie maker. When it appeared it had 461 bits that need to be moved to timeline. Must be someway to do this and not have to move 461 bits manually. HELP

    How complicated are your edits?

I've always used Virtual Dub to edit avi files.
The interface isn't particularly friendly but you use the slider to get to your approximate cut place then the gold keys to get to a key frame. (Key frames are the ideal places to cut. If you need more precision you can go frame by frame but key frames are recommended.) Then you mark the beginning of the cut with the skinny arrow keys on the far right. Then do the same for the end of your cut.

Hitting the delete key removes that section. Or you can save the section using the File menu and Save as AVI. You can do multiple deletes of various segments and then save the remaining movie if that is the type of editing you are doing. The original movie is not changed during editing.

Note: when you first open your movie you want to go to the video menu and select Direct Stream Processing (if you forget your edited movie will be created in an uncompressed mode and be huge.
