Eliminating too many "secret" programs

My computer has recently started to glitch from time to time. I run Spybot and Ad Aware regularly, but recently caught just a part of a radio program that mentioned programs with programs running behind the scenes that Ad Aware and Spybot would not catch. Is there a program (the less expensive, the better) that can get rid of unwanted running programs? I realize this question is similar to many others that have been posted, so if I am repeating, I apologize. Thank you.

 

Sure there's all kinds of things. Here is a sticky thread that has a hole slew of stuff you can use. It's also good if you run into problems you just can't figure out how to fix.
