We're working on a Emachine PC (a T2885). We can't get it to power-up...nothing at all happens when you push the power button. We changed power supply, battery, checked switch for continuity (is ok) -- no change with new power supply or battery. Green light is on motherboard, but nothing powers up. We think that the motherboard may be shot...if we were to change the motherboard, do you know if Emachine will let me reinstall their Windows XP OS? Do you all have any other ideas or suggestions regarding motherboard? Thanks in advance!:) Shannon

Some people have gotten by with using their restore disk when using a retail replacement mobo. The secret is to pick a mobo with similar hardware, i.e., same chipset, audio, video, etc as the oem mobo.
Lots of good eMachine info located here:

This is too funny...I just posted to another thread the same problem so I will cheat and copy and paste the same reply here.....

I have 3 dead e-machines here all with blown mobo's, they are not very good machines and if you google e-machines you will see thousands of pages where people have come in one day turned it on to find that the board is gone to a better place!
Tiger Direct sells a decent replacement board for the e-machines and is way better then the original board, however unless you replace it your self you will be looking at an expensive repair bill for the labor, board, etc...which is why I have 3 here! I have recommended to my customers with e-machines to replace the power supply and the mobo as soon as they can, sadly they can replce the computer for about the same price, or buy another case, board and power supply and try to transplant the good stuff from the e-machines to the new setup.
I recently pulled one of the e-machines bad power supplies apart and looked into it, it seems that they are burning up a part near the voltage regulators, I can't tell the part any more because there was nothing left there but ashes and a scorch mark on the PC board so I couldn't even see a symbol, my guess is that when this goes it is send the wrong voltage to the mobo and murdering it, if your lucky! it can as easily send the wrong voltage through the 4 pin plug and destroy your processor, and I have read where both have happened. If your game to change it yourself then I think the price for a Tiger Direct replacement is around $40 and is a easy swap. Hope this helped some.

That is a decent mobo for the $$ and will fit the eMachine NexGen case. CPU and RAM should work, even the front panel usb and audio connectors may in fact plug in w/o a hassle.
But this Biostar mobo lacks onboard video, so you'll need a video card and since the chipsets are way different than the original Intel D845GVSR mobo, the restore disk won't work and you'll need a full version WinXP disk...or whatever OS you want to run.

could be a way around that, the part of the restore disk that you need is to basicly load the drivers for the chipset, the processor is the same and with no on board video then there is no hardware on the board to look for, you might be able to boot into safe mode and let windows pick out the new chip set and install the drivers, also since the board comes with drivers you should also be able to boot into safe when Windows detects new hardware supply the drivers from the mobo disk. The e-machines that I have here in my shop with fried boards the built in intel graphics isn't that exciting so if it gets to the point where a graphics card stops you, you let me know and I bet I can find one around here to donate.
