emachine w3107

I have an emachine w3107 that I would like to restore to its original state.
I was able to get past the passwords and clean everything up and remove viruses and malware.
But I would like to completely restore it but I don't have any restore cd's.
The partition is still there but locked from windows and I accessed the d drive in dos but cannot get into the directory to access the restore exe.
Any suggestions would be apprieciated.

If you have not deleted it, there should be a program in your programs list that will allow you to burn cd-dvd recovery disc's, it will be listed as maybe tools, emachine, some type of heading that dont match any of your regular programs. ed

 

The recovery partition is locked if you use MY Computer. But you can still see it using Windows Explorer (the split screen version of of My Computer) by right mouse-clicking on my computer and choosing Explore from the menu. This actually has more functionality than My Computer, seeing files and locations that My Computer can't.

Also, if that doesn't work, you may not be set up to view hidden and system files. You would have to go into the Tools menu item, Folder Options, then View, and change the setting to show all hidden and system files.

Then COPY all files out of that recovery partition to somewhere else, and try not to change the recovery partition at all, in case you have to reference it in the future.

Note: On the recovery Partition, there is in the path: MiniNT\System32, there is a file called "Restore.exe" with the PC Angel icon symbol next to it. I have yet to try it, but this may be the restore app for the partition. But as I said, dont' work from there; copy elsewhere first.
