hey, i need help... so i have this emachine and i havent used it for about a year... i was having issues with it before... one day after work, i came home and it didn't turn on... everything was plugged in but nothing... i opened it up and saw a little green light on the mother board. it was lit. but the computer wouldnt boot... so i bought a new power supply... it wasn't the case...

so returned it and just bought a new dell... but i want to know whats wrong with it... my brother had the same computer. last night, i took his a part and replaced my power supply with his power supply and got the second hard drive from my dell and placed it into my emachine. i plugged it in and nothing but that little green light on the mother board... i hear a really light humming sound but dont know where its coming from in the computer. i kept plugging the power cord to the power box repeatitly and once in a while the CPU fan moved... i felt the cpu and the fan but it wasnt hot... nothing was over heating...

    PLEASE HELP!!!!

    You have a short
Look for any sign of burn marks, or loose screw, skinned wire something of that nature

i did and there's nothing wrong.... i think its the CPU itself.

i changed the cpu from a different computer... still nothing...

I realize there is no online documentation for emachines but can you find the jumpers to clear CMOS? Usually located near the battery.

That is all I can think o, emachines seem to have a history of someone going away for a week and finding their computer unbootable. No power surge or anything to attribute the problem to. Clearing CMOS probably won't help since the CPU fan works sometimes but my only thought.
