Emachines G725 Boots to Black w/cursor

No dramas and was shut down properly. Goes through emachines logo to a black screen with a non-blinking cursor at top left whether HDD is installed or not. I can read the Windows partition on another computer so I am not convinced it is the HDD. BIOS is no problem either.

Running Win7 64 Home Premium. Have checked and cleaned RAM, tried different boot devices. Does not read the Acer Rescue CD (or any CD).

Help appreciated as I like the machine.

Thanks - I fixed it but this was a DOS problem - black screen, static white cursor - before Windows loaded, However I found that the machine had created a bunch of 'Boot to Network' options. When I removed the 'Boot to Network' option in the BIOS boot section, the machine booted up.

The black screen occurred whether the HDD was present or not and I could read the HDD on another machine so it didn't appear to be a HDD fault. The Boot to Network options might have been caused by the addition of a hub with several USB sticks. But who knows??
