    A storm fried our 2Wire AT&T Router. We always used that to hard wire our eMachines Desktop for Internet. Then everything else was wireless. We finally got a new router, the exact same model, and I went to hook it up to the PC. I couldn't get the Internet working no matter what I did! I checked different cords, re-installed drivers, checked the DHCP (on), and it still wouldn't work! The wireless works on my iPhones and iPods but not wired to the Desktop and now it won't work on my laptop! Please tell me how to fix it!
    Specs: eMachines T3304
    Networking Adapters:
    NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet Adapter (NGRPCI)
    I looked on the back and that is apparently what I always plugge the Ethernet into (In Device Manager, it says "The Device cannot start. (Code 10)
    NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
    In Network Connections, it says "Network cable unplugged". It always said this even when I did have Internet. It never showed a connection for the NETGEAR.

    This computer has an integrated NIC adapter on the motherboard according to these specs. You also have a PCI adapter. Is the integrated adapter disabled in BIOS. If two network adapters are shown in Device manager disable one. See if the onboard Ethernet will work.

    Edit: What is your OS? If the onboard NIC is not showing in Device Manager, it's possible the chipset driver was not installed.

    Tried a hard reset of your modem before it goes to the router?
    Connect cable to PC from router.
    Power off router AND modem AND PC.
    Wait about a minute, then restart modem.
    When every light is burning solid, restart the router.
    Restart PC after router stabilizes.

    I have no Modem. Only the 2Wire Router.

    Do you have two ethernet ports in the back of the computer? One should be on the I/O plate of the motherboard and the other should be on the PCI backplate. Do not confuse it with a modem port. Are there any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager?

    Pete and Re-Pete were walking down the street.

    If the machine in question was connected to the router at the time the router got fried, that would mean that the NIC or any NICS connected to the router also got fried. Also means that other problems most likely happened to any machines hard wired to the router. All you can do, is file with your home owner's or renter's insurance, pay the deductible, and let them replace anything that got damaged.

    Next step if you own the home, is contact an electrician to look over the electrical system to make sure that the lightening did not damage any electrical components, and make sure that the catv & telephone lines properly bonded & grounded to earth ground;
