Yes, potentially. If they're using a proxy, they can see every page you visit. Also, since you're using company resources to do so, the temporary files on your machines hard drive become their property. If you're in fear of getting in trouble over it, don't do it. I would go to the IT department and review the policies for this sort of thing.

Usually the connection is encrypted using SSL, so even if a middle man is able to intercept the traffic, that person should not be able to view the contents.

Usually the mail pages are marked as "dynamic" pages, so the web browser will not attempt to cache the pages on the disk.

Your work place will be able see that your use yahoo/hotmail to view your email. But to see what they contain they either has to hack you yahoo/hotmail account or stand behind your back while you are reading.

Not complety true, most companies have remote monitoring software allowing them to view whats happening on your screen at any time, so really they can view anything you do or open at work.

Guess I have been working for the right companies so far, never heard of companies spending extra money on software to spy on their workers. Usually Remote Desktop or similar is used, which requires that the person accepts that another person takes over the machine.

VNC free software that can be used for remote monitoring. Also if you use thin clients with a terminal server, theres a built in option for montoring, i know because i just used it to monitor one of our employees who is abusing company pcs.

Here in Denmark the company has to inform that they can/will read mail sent/received using the company email. Similar they have to inform that they can/will monitor what is happening on the company pc's. If not then the company is breaking the law when monitoring.

But thanks for telling, it is nice to know what options there are available.

Heres how it works at everywhere i have been employeed, or admined, the employee upon being given a job, is given a notice of acceptible use for company pcs and a notice stating that they shouldn't expect privacy on a company pc.

I used to work for E.D.S., I personally witnessed them doing it.

So, if I'm getting this right that means they have to be monitoring your pc while you are actually using your outside email account

For the most part yes, i do know of a place i used to work, were they actually had the cability to log video of your actions, but for the most part yes, they would have to watching you at the time it happens and would only see what you were currently viewing.
