Email and software problems

Thanks for the info Asus, sorry i am having to start a new thread, but everytime i try to open the old thread to reply, the virus shuts the window down, yes sadly i havent managed to get rid of it yet, its a clever bugger thats for sure, everytime i try to download the right software to get rid of it, its almost like it knows and closes the relavent web page, same as if i try and get to all the web pages you suggested, it closes the explorer window down, yet it lets me surf the net fine for anything not related to getting rid of this virus, hows it do that? ...there was some advice on getting rid of it, by right clicking on My Computer on desk top, then clicking properties, and turning off *system restore on sll drives* ...then restarting puter, and then turning system restore back on, only problem being, they were instructions for windows xp and millenium i think, none for windows 2000 pro, i did try anyway but got no where fast. help somebody please, i am going lol.

Virus: Unknow, affects msn messanger, hotmail, it opens chat windows and sends out files without asking, to people on your messanger list, using file names like ...*Best Friend* ...*Shoot Bill Gates!*...*I Love You* ....*Bungee-*****...*Busted Are Gay!*...*Really Cute*...*Saddam Song*...*Hot Babe*...*Me At The Beach*....*My Piccy*....*Paris Hilton Sex Tape*...*Death Crazy Frog*... ..and that seems to be it, most are pif files one or two exe, and one scr which i opened, ouch! ...anyone heard of this virus? anyone know what it is? or where i can find it in my files to delete it? ...by the way it wont let me open registry editor, or task manager to end processes, like i said, its a clever bugger .....i have been able to locate file, and click proerties, thats how i came by these file names it duplicates itself under.

Wahoooo! ...well what can i say, this site is FANTASTIC! ...thanks to the help of you wonderful people i am now free of the new W32.Serflog.
here is how i did it.

This virus was hard to beat, all the info i required for getting rid of this virus, it wouldnt let me view, IE kept closing down if i tried to access or read relevant info needed to clean or get rid of the virus, i wasnt able to download tools to fix it, and i wasnt able to upload fixing tools from discs or floppy either, no tool/programs would run, lucky for me i had another pc on the network that wasnt infected, i was able to post for help here through this other computer. I eventually found the fix it tool kindly posted for me by jujet84, i downloaded it to my desk top, i then sent the serflog fixing application via email to my hotmail addy, thinking i could come back to the infected computer, open the email using outlook express, and download the new application to my desk top, *no such luck!* ...as this virus attacks hotmail, it wouldnt let me open the application, ahhhggggrrr then realising it only affected hotmail, i decided to try sending the application to my yahoo email address, where thankfully i was able to download the file and place it on my desk top of the infected computer, using the instructions i disconnected netwrok cables, and DSL cables, and ran the scan, one reboot, and a final scan to make sure i was clean, and hey presto! ...hope this info is of help to someone out there, thanks for your help you guys/gals.

Ps. if you dont have access to a second computer, get a friend to find what you need and email you the application, but make sure you are not trying to open the application in hotmail, use another email provider other than hotmail, there are plenty of free ones available.
