email "forward" safe to read?

I'm getting a lot of forwarded messages from people I know. They are clearly marked FW in the subject line, so I don't have to open the message if I don't want to. Are these messages scanned for viruses and spam by my Avast, SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes programs like my regular incoming mail are? Thanks.

 

Not sure about the later but maybe ask your friends if they have even sent you these emails by mentioning the FW: subject title. They may have had their accounts "compromised" and are in need of scans.

In respone to the question about is fw mail scannes by avast and programs of the same nature the answer is yes i use avast and all my mail wether it be incoming, forwarded, outgoing is scanned for viruses.

Yes, all incoming messages, whether original or forwarded, are scanned.

Edit: I just noticed you posted your topic twice. Otherwise, I would have replied in the other one.

 

My understanding is that it is not the email itself that can contain viruses or other infestation, but it's the attachments. Therefore, it really shouldn't make any difference whether the email is a FW or not -- that it would be safe to open the FWed email, but not necessarily safe to open any ATTACHMENT to the email.

 

Thanks for the replies. It makes me feel better to know that all my incoming mail (not attachments) is scanned.

 

Even the attachment is scanned when you accsess it. No worrys...
