Hi, for several weeks now my friends have been receiving emails that I personally did not send. They get them every few days - always with (No Subject). I have cleaned my contacts down to a minimum.

I ran all your spyware removal tools and am attaching the logs as requested.

I would appreciate if you can tell me what my next step should be. Thank you.

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

    You're welcome. :)

Codec-V <--- Uninstall this with Revo. See below.

    Try Revo Uninstaller.
Choose the option on the bottom of the list (#4). Be very careful while deleting the bolded registry items ONLY!! This software will create a system restore point for you as well prior to uninstalling a software program.

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate these 2 detections:
    • [SUSP PATH] HKCU\[...]\Run : {E94C3D6C-A7D3-D140-D151-0945BB1F78EC} (C:\Users\test\AppData\Roaming\Ymx\tataaw.exe) -> FOUND
    • [SUSP PATH] HKUS\S-1-5-21-2531782822-2082708786-73653425-1000[...]\Run : {E94C3D6C-A7D3-D140-D151-0945BB1F78EC} (C:\Users\test\AppData\Roaming\Ymx\tataaw.exe) -> FOUND
Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)

    Delete this file.
    • C:\Users\test\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\040a57k541348pk6ac863ni

Delete this folder if it exists.
    • C:\Users\test\AppData\Roaming\Ymx

Now run RogueKiller again like you did the first time and attach the new log.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

I have installed Revo Uninstaller and was running. I received the following error message:

    Running the applications uninstaller failed!
    Possible invalid uninstall command!

How should I proceed? Thank you.

Download Combofix to your desktop. Please refer to these instructions for how to use it.

    Delete this folder.
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Codec-V

Attach the log from combofix once done.

Now run RogueKiller yet again like you did the very first time and attach the log.

OK, and run RogueKiller again and attach the log. It is still indicating a problem, but I want to see what it says now that you have already run Combo.

Yes, there is still a problem. Another email was sent from my account at 3:46pm today with the subject "FWD: Hi Friend".

Although I have cleaned out my contacts it is still sending to email addresses I have deleted. I know this because one of the addresses was incorrect and I get a delivery error. My business email is also in this contact list, so I get them sent to myself. This is how I am aware of when they are sent.

I have attached todays report as requested. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi, just to let you know that I have deleted ALL my contacts associated with the hijacked email address. I don't want my friends getting these bogus mails. The only address I kept is the incorrect one so I can monitor this account. Thank you.

    SystemLook

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1
    Download Mirror #2

    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
      Code:
      :dir
      ezt

    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Now we need to use ComboFix by sUBs

    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Folder::
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Codec-V
    C:\Users\test\AppData\Roaming\Babylon
    C:\Users\All Users\Babylon
    C:\ProgramData\Babylon
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

Now run RogueKiller again and attach the new log.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://search.babylon.com/?affID=10...HP_ss&mntrId=e24b91780000000000004c0f6e5c7b44
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Ok, so I may have screwed up. I ran MGTools.exe from the desktop :( Then I re-read your post and ran MGTools/analyse.exe and followed those directions.

Attached are the reports from Combofix and Roguekill. . . .

I had access to a friends computer today so was able to run all software without opening/closing browsers, etc. I hope this helped.

I seem to have installed Malwarebytes, it runs when I start my computer. I use Avast free edition, and have never had problems with it. Should I uninstall one of these?

Thank you so much for working with me the past few days. You are appreciated!

There have been no more emails sent, but the system seems to be very slow to boot and Firefox very slow to start. I can live with slow. Is my email account safe? I haven't been using it.

Thank you for getting the babylon search toolbar removed. I don't even know when it was downloaded. I never saw it with Firefox but noticed it the last time I started IE. I couldn't figure out how to remove it.

I truly appreciate your assistance. You guys are lifesavers. I've used your expertise on a previous laptop. I recommend you guys to everyone!

Is there a way I can check them all?

See if the below link helps

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/hotmail/help-center

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
