From one Canadian to another, welcome to the forum!
    ;)
You can set Outlook Express up to notify you of any new e-mails from as low as every 1 minute.

Thank you both for the help.
Maybe I had better explain this further.
I am aware of the setting for notifying me every 1 minute. What I was looking for was a program that would pop up on my destop to let me know when e-mails are arriving.
I tried IncrediMail but found it messed up my computer.
Is there another one that would be really safe ? Thank mum

ePrompter is a freeware "Email Notification" software might do the trick. You can find it here: eprompter.com.

It is extremely easy to install, configure and use (see this demo posted at youtube) and it works with almost all ISP e-mail services. Users can set the ePrompter application to check up to 16 separate password-protected e-mail accounts. Notification consists of a flag in your system tray, which is color-coded for each different e-mail account.

After the program is setup to use the email accounts that you want monitored; using this program you can (by just clicking on the blinking taskbar button) check, read, save and forward or delete the e-mails which come in to your accounts. There is no need to open your e-mail program or be at the ISP's site.

When you get a new message, you simply click the icon and start reading. Composing a new e-mail or responding is a snap and it is regularly updated for bugs, security, etc are automatic once it is installed. You can even set it up as a 'screensaver notifier' with a choice of five screensaver options.

Another thing I like about it (besides the ease-of-use) is that the ePrompter program is much safer to use than many other similar types of email notifiers because it cannot open attachments. This is a great security feature; since accidentally opening a malicious attachment is one of the primary ways innocent folks receive a virus, worm or trojans. If you have a message with an attachment that you actually want to receive, you can just go directly to your ISP e-mail account to open it.

I have attended many computer-related as well as freeware-related forums over the years and I have yet to see any major bugs, security flaws etc. reported or even a single 'credible' negative review of this handy product.

Side Note: I was surprised that this software is not listed here at the major geeks site in the e-mail related software section.

    Good Luck!

Thank you I have been reading and looking at the demo. It sounds good to me .
I will also give this a try. I will finally pick one that I like best and post my decision here.
