email problems

On my Dell Inspiron 5100 when I try to send email using Netscape 7.1 I get an error message as follows: An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: you are not allowed to send mail to ***@charter.net. Please check the message recipients and try again.
There should not be any corruption because I just wiped the hard drive and re-installed the OS and all software. I am only experiencing the problem on this machine. I have several other computers including a new Inspiron 1501, a desktop that I built, and an older 400 MHz with an older version of Netscape on it and I am not having a problem on any of them. I have Googled the error message but have not had any success. I would appreciate it if someone would tell me where to start.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been enrolled for a while but never got my feet wet until now.

    Hi

Make sure in your Netscape email settings that the server info is correct for Charter.Net

    Incomming server should be pop.charter.net

    Outgoing Server should be smtp.charter.net

Thanks Halo, I have already done all of that. I am now searching information to see is there is a registry setting that I might have missed. If you have any information about that I would appreciate a reply. You can send me an email at <email>*removed<email> if you don't want to publish your reply.

    Thanks

    Hi

In the server tab of email settings is Secure SMTP Authentication ticked if not tick it and try again, as that error is linked to an outgoing mail server issue.

Also charter may also use this one for outgoing mail, mail.charter.net and worth a try, but you may need to call their support for accurate settings.

ps. I will always publish a reply as thats the whole idea of a forum in sharing info as it may help someone else in the future. :)

I have also moved this thread to the software forum as many more will read it their and someone may have come across this before.

Thanks, But neither worked. I agree with you that it seems like an outgoing server problem but I am using the same settings on three other computers and do not have a problem. The problem is only on this machine which, makes me wonder if it is not a hardware problem since I am using the same software on all machines. I thought about going to registry HKLM and compare the settings on two of my machines.

    Hi Everybody,
I feel rather dumb but I finally found the problem. It was a loose screw at the keyboard. In my account settings I had put the wrong email address on my account. Thanks for the effort anyway.
