I think this is the right place to ask.

I have a problem with viewing certain emails. I have a hotmail email account which I have had for about 12 years now. When I recieve an email containing images of the .jpg type, I can view them by simply clicking the attachment and allowing it. Recently, I have been recieving images not of the .jpg type, and all I can see is a greyed out box the same size of the picture. The filename is always YMP(blah).TMP. I cannot click on the attachment. Hotmail says it has blocked some parts of the email as they appear unsafe. I know they are safe because I know what the content is. However, there is no option I can find in Hotmail to allow me to change any of these settings. I even tried switching from PRO to CLASSIC and back again, but nothing works. Is there a way to get around this?
Can't even find a way to contact hotmail staff and ask them.

    Cheers

Hi all, forget about that question. I did an hours tedious research and found a site on the web that explained how to do it. Who dares wins eh?

    Thanks

    Hi Dmatt

Great on the self fix, but what was the answer as someone else may see your question and love to know how you fixed it?

    Cheers

    Hi

I managed to find a webpage, and did the following which worked for me...

"As a test, I sent an exe file to my Hotmail address. When I logged onto
Hotmail via the webmail interface, I received the same error message
("Windows Live Hotmail has blocked some attachments in this mail because
they appear unsafe"). All attempts to unblock the attachment via the
    webmail interface failed.

Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem.

If you install Windows Live Mail as a standalone application on your PC,
you may be able to use Windows Live Mail to access your Hotmail inbox
    via the HTTP server at
    http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp. Then, provided your
anti-virus software is running / up-to-date, you should change the
following local setting to unblock access to "unsafe attachments" in
    Windows Live Mail:

    a) Open Windows Live Mail

    b) Click on Tools / Safety Options / Security

    c) Untick the box marked "Do not allow attachments to be saved or
opened that could potentially be a virus"."

It seems that with the latest version of Live and Hotmail, the option to open a potentially unsafe attachment was removed. So even if youre 100% sure the contents are safe, you were still unable to open the attachment. This was the only workaround I could find, but it did work for me.

Obviously, like the poster said, make sure if you do this you have anti virus software installed just in case.

    Cheers
