We finally got a new Dell computer and installed MS Office 2010 using my old CD. The problem we now have is the older version of Home Office does not include Outlook :(. The Office 2010 email program is the absolute minimum and certainly is not what we need (for contact groups, etc). Is there a free, decent email program available (like Outlook 2016) where I can download my Contacts from MS ? My email carrier, Yahoo mail, is pretty deficient of any extra capabilities. I just don't want to purchase MS Outlook 2016 unless I have to.

    Thanks!

If you have Windows 10 installed. You should be able to use Outlook in the new mail app. Another alternative could be something like Mozilla Thunderbird.

If you have Win 10 then, as recommended, do try the Mail app. I've been using it for five addresses for a couple of months and it has worked well. Otherwise I would recommend Mozilla Thunderbird.

Thank you for your responses. The Mozilla Thunderbird website says that I can import my Outlook contacts if Outlook is already installed. I no longer have Outlook on my computer, so am I out of luck??

Sadly yes as it has nothing to import from, unless you actually saved mail separate from MS Office Outlook. BUT if the mail in question is still on the servers of your email provider, you should be able to download it via Thunderbird again. Depends what you used previously - IMAP or POP3

Is your only email account with Yahoo?

Do you have a friend who does have Outlook installed? Or do you still have your Office installation disk? We could solve this with either.

You could try Office 365 for free to get outlook that way and cancel the free trial before you get charged?

It includes Outlook and could then import your contacts into thunderbird that way. Just remember to cancel the trial or get slapped with a $99 year subscription.

Where exactly is it going to import them from??? How can Office 365 'magically' know what the OP's 'contacts' were?

Putting the 'how' aside for the moment, do you still have access to the old .pst file? That is where your contacts were kept and without it you cannot recover them. If you do have it then it can be mounted as a data file in Outlook and your contacts exported to a file that can be imported to TBird.

I did a search of my pc and found outlook.pst. Now I need to find a program that will open it without Outlook. I am doing a search of what kind of program will open it.

Let us know if you succeed. I've been trying too but no success at all.
