email sending problem

    Hi all
    I have just joined your site on recommendation. I have a problem with my email and am not sure where to post it , and am desperate for some help. I am using outlook express, everything works fine for recieving emails ,I just can not send , well not always, and often i have to try and send 20,30 times befor it goes. The problem just started with nothing changing this end. I have an orange live box and wireless conection. Wife and daughter have no problem with their lap tops.
    Please help any info most gratefully recieved.
    PS The error message i get is:
    The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.orangehome.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

    Haven't used OE in quite a few years but I do remember it could be buggy. I know I would on ocassion just have to reset the POP and SMPT settings, just go through like setting up an account.
    The other thing I would run into at times was either a limit in the .dbx files, or just some corrupt. I have fixed some by just deleting all .dbx files, course this loses the ones you have unless you export them first. :wave:wave

    Have you tried this?
    The Outgoing (SMTP) server requires authentication.
    If you are using Outlook Express you should check the box 'My server requires authentication'.

    Also are you sure your ISP allows port 25? Some ISPs block that port because of spammers.
    Check to see what port your ISP mentions using for email.

    Hi

    Orange have a habbit of doing things like this and try changing the outgoing SMTP port to 587 from 25 then try again, info on how to chaneg port settings HERE dumped Orange many years back, but dont think they had Server Requires Authentication SSL as a tick, but do try it ticked and unticked.

    You where not a Wanadoo customer that migrated to Orange are you?

    Hi golffisher13,

    The winsock error 10060 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms740668(VS.85).aspx reads like something is interfering with the ability to send out email.

    If you have an anti-virus/spyware or firewall program installed, temporarily disable them, reboot and test to see if the problem continues.

    You can also reset your router back to its default settings, reconfigure, reboot all machines and try again.
