    Ok, I'm having an issue with both outlook express and thunderbird retrieving my emails since I upgraded to broadband and a wireless connection. The problem is both programs seem to try to use the old dial up pci modem that's still installed in my pc even although I'm already connected to the internet with the new wireless card. The thing that confuses me more is that the other pc we have is near enough identicle and has just had exactly the same hardware upgrade yet doesn't have this problem??. And from what I can see both email programs on my other pc have exactly the same settings but they automatically connect to the new wireless connection to retrieve mail.

    Its really annoying because I either have to go downstairs and start up the other pc, or dissconnect broadband and use the old dial up to get my emails. The router and pci cards are all the same brand (BT Voyager 2100 router and 2 x BT Voyager 1040 pci wireless cards), all came with full installation software and were set up using it.

    I use Thunderbird mostly but I've been trying to get outlook express working also. But as soon as either are opened they try to connect to my old dial up connection. Here is the error message outlook gives me.

    The server responded with an error. Account: 'pop.freeserve.net', Server: 'pop.freeserve.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

    Can anyone suggest anything to solve this?. Its probably going to be some setting I've just missed but its driving me crazy!. I've been trying to sort it for ages now and can't find any way to sort it. Any help or suggestions are very welcome. Also if you need any more info just let me know.

    Delete your Dial-up connection from IE > Tools > Internet Options > Connection and remove it from the Dialup and VP network settings box.

    Reason you do it via IE is that OE shares its connection settings with IE and as you conecting via a wireless router all your internet connection settings User/Pass are held in the Router IIRC on the BT Voyager?

    Thanks I just tried that but it didn't work. It still tries to connect to the old modem and gives that error code again. Also I use firefox are there any settings I can adjust in that?.

    Anyone help?, This is making me want to throw the pc out the window :mad: . Thunderbird and Outlook both just dont seem to realise i've changed to the wireless connection. Firefox and Explorer both connect fine??. Whats going on?. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless card to see if it was a problem with the setup but its still the same. :confused: :confused:

    Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
    or Start -> Control Panel
    Look for and double-click an icon called 'Internet Options'
    Go to the 'Connections' tab
    Put a dot next to 'Never dial a connection'
    Click 'Ok'

    See if that helps.

    Good luck,

    The error messag you posted would indicate that you are running AVG Anti-Virus and your email client is connecting to the AVG server as a Proxy and then connects to your email server. The message indicates that the problem is with the AVG Proxy Server, not necessarily with your computer although it could be a configuration problem with AVG. You might try uninstalling AVG and see if that helps.
