I have used Hotmail or Live Mail forever but it has been phased out by MS + Outlook.com has replaced it. It is bare bones just like the new Win 8 mail program.
Does anyone have a good email program that has emoticons for the grandchildren yet still maintains integrity for business letters etc?

    Hi Plodr

I cannot believe how coincidental your email is. My wife and I today discovered the emoticons. I don't know if they were always there although we both scoured, or if they are working on the program and improving as they go; it is nice to have them. We have been sending feedback but can't take ourselves too seriously.
I just wished a little one a happy birthday, appropriately.
    Peter ;)

more seriously, although I rarely use it I have Outlook 2007 and no sign of emoticons, nor any popup formatting box like the one above. ????

peterr, you are asking about email programs but it seems that what you are actually talking about is outlook.com, the old hotmail - a webmail service rather than an email program. So which is it you want, a better webmail service than outlook.com or an email client like Outlook or Thunderbird? If it's webmail you want then gmail is hard to beat.

This is the webmail which MS has deemed to recycle the use of the word Outlook to replace MSN and hotmail and Live mail. It is not Outlook included with any version of Office.

    gmail is good but ...
I see that outlook.com has several hundred emoticons.
