Embarrassing Question About Bluetooth Earbuds

I'm considering buying a pair of bluetooth earbuds to use with my iPod at work. My question...are the earbuds themselves providing what I'll need to remotely access the iPod, or will I need access to my work's wi-fi password? I recognize this probably reads as a ridiculous question, but I've always avoided bluetooth anything due to cost, and only now see these products in my price range.
