Last time, Jan, it was a worm and the backdoor virus. Now it is the Empire virus. Where can I go to find the fix? I can get to my internet but not the email. Of course the systray and other files aren't found so I really need help. If you could find me a link, I could get there. Unfortunately my IE 6 won't do a search. I currently have Windows 98. Thanks for your help!!!!

    current AV

Currently I am using AVG anti virus and also have Gladiator freeware to use manually in addition to zone alarm. I used to be running NAV and ZA but once I got the worm and virus in Jan I was directed to change to AVG anti virus.

I don't know why AVG wouldn't have caught that. The links I posted are online scanning engines and may or may not help you out.

    Virus Prob

There is an online virus scanner which might be able to help. From memory its www.trendmicro.com.au. Worth a try in a desperate situation. I have not used it but it was recommended to me as pretty good. Good luck

    housecall scan found no viruses

Housecall did not find any viruses. Now what? The computer has to have something wrong because it is not functioning properly. For some reason, when I look at pictures on Ebay etc that are supposed to enlarge the java script shows in the bottom task bar and it hangs. I still have the problems at startup.

If you don't have a virus, you probabaly need to reformat.

This is not a reformat instruction:

get your XP cd ready, go to command prompt by going to start.. run.. then type in CMD.

when you get the black screen at the command prompt (C:\) type this

    sfc /scannow

    just like that.
this will replace/repair any files that are damaged.

    your hard drive.

Back everything up, thats everything you want to keep, make sure you have all the app cds that you want, then be very, very scared! ok, dont do that.

What kind of pc do you have? if its a retail one, then you probably have a "emergency recovery disk" once you are ready, you need to put that in and tell it to restore your computer to factory settings or whatever it says.
