"empty" folder keeps showing up ...

A couple of weeks ago I created a folder on my desktop called "SETTING UP", which was to hold information I needed to create websites, facebook, blogs, etc. Last week I created a different folder and named it "SELLING". Since this last folder was collecting more information, I moved what I had in the first folder into the 2nd folder; then deleted the "SETTING UP" folder, cleaning out my "Recycle Bin".

Now, each time I pull up my Outlook Express, do whatever I need to and close it, there is that SETTING UP folder back on my desk top. (I've even had this occur without pulling up Outlook Express but just on rebooting.)

The "properties" on this folder show it is empty. I've deleted it several times (once in safe mode), even changed its name and then deleted it, even placed it in my "SELLING" folder and then deleted it. Still this SETTING UP folder continues to return to my desktop.

Can anyone help me stop this folder from returning? (I've run Avast antivirus and Malwarebytes and they do not show anything wrong with this folder. I've also disk cleaned and defragged.) I'm stumped and would appreciate some help.

 

Try adding a file or two to the folder before deleting. If that doesn't work you could sign on and delete it with the hidden Administrator account, or try changing the file's permissions/ownership, or delete it with a boot disk. You might also find chkdsk /r helps.

 

Thanks Earthling. I put a txt in that folder and then deleted the folder. So far it has not returned.
