Hola. I've downloaded Emule but I can't seem to figure out how to change my ID status from low to high - I think this is preventing me from being able to download anything. It all looks a helluva lot more confusing than limewire or kazza. I'm hoping someone might be able to lend me a hand

    The (hopefully relevant) facts:
I checked under network connections, and made sure the internet connection firewall was disabled. This is the only advice on the emule page I was able to follow.

I have a 3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller, but I don't know what kind of router. My PC is attached to one in my housemate's bedroom.

Under Local Area Connection, the following items are ticked off as being used: Client for microsoft networks, file and printer sharing for microsoft networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, and Internet Protocol TCP/IP

Under configuration of the Integrated Ethernet Controller properties are:
    802.1p support - Disable
    Flow control - Enable
    Media type - auto select
    Network address - not present
    RX checksum offload - enable
    TX checksum offload - enable

In LAN properties, under Authentification, IEE 802.1X is checked off as being enabled.
EAP type is "smart card or other certificate"

Not sure if this was the info needed. I'm a geek, but an oldschool bookish type. Anyway, I'm on MSN quite frequently - bamboozlem@hotmail.com - and would be more than happy to spew out more details.

    Thanks!
    Caroline

Since you're behind a router, you will have to forward some ports that are required for emule to work properly.

in order to do this, you must assign yourself a Static IP address, and then set up your router for port forwarding. The manufacturer's website for your particular router should have two easy guides to do such things, since it is a very common requirement.

once you figure out how, Emule requires ports 4662-4672 both UDP and TCP to be forwarded to your computer from the router.

good luck, if you need help locating the guides, let us know the manufacturer and preferably the model number of the router.

    welcome to MajorGeeks!
