EnhanceMySearch takes over all searches..

Every time I perform a search, either through Google or MSN a program is intercepting the request and presenting the results. The name on the header bar is "EnhanceMySearch.com". I looked through my computer for any such program and really didn't find anything. I then searched through the Registry and found one reference and deleted it. Still no good. Can't get rid of it no matter what I do. HELP! Even tried to go to the site (I know, not a good idea), but when you arrive there, it says you "don't have permission to view etc....). Any help would be appreciated.

you are experiencing browser hijacking, steps 4-6 of major attitudes thread "READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal" (it's the last sticky) deals with ways to eliminate this problem, however the rest of the steps can greatly help as well in eliminating possible trojans, spyware and prevent further browser theft. some can be quite stubborn and hard to find, these steps do help. They helped me greatly. good luck

 

Hey hey... new to the site... I followed the steps to the T on the other thread you referenced and no dice. it still brings up a popup window and seems to generate about 28 new instances of spyware including 2 processes when you do that first search on google or whatever after you've cleaned the whole machine.

I'm working on someone elses completely pooched PC and much junk has been removed but the only thing that remains is this enhancemysearch business. it no longer opens to the actual enhancemysearch page, but a blank white page with a text string referencing some user not having enough connections available. it'll open one of these windows for every search you perform. so annoying! i've got an elbow to the head saved up for whoever thought this one up!

read somewhere that the site came into existence sometime around 10/12/04.

i'm going to continue searching for a solid fix for it, but if anyone knows of one, can you direct me to it?
