Enough to run Windows XP

I have an HP Pavilion 9870 1.3 GHz machine with 128 MB of RDRAM and a 60gb hard drive. I have already installed XP and I like it a lot better than ME, which came on the machine. However, it does seem to run a little slower which I can live with, but the internet is now unbearably slow.

Would adding RAM help the internet speed, or should I just go back to Windows ME.

    Thanks

128MB is on the limit of minimum specs, I would recommend at least 256MB for XP, but it does work with 128MB. Processor speed is fine.

I would never, EVER go back to ME.

Have you got up to date network card drivers, or modem drivers?

I agree with Goldy, but I don't consider it as 'works' with 128MB on XP, the bare minimum for a workable XP should be 256MB.
Generally whatever M$ states as a workable 'minimum' amount of anything, multiply that value with (approx.) 2 to find the 'realistic' workable minimum. ;)

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I think I have the updated drivers for the modem, but I'm not sure. Is there a good place to find out and download a new one if one exists?

Also, does the amount of RAM have any effect on the performance of the internet connection?

    Thanks for helping.

Try a google search on your make an model of modem plus the word driver and I am sure you will get something. Example is Make+model+driver on second line of search bar

Best thing you can do for your PC is to increase RAM as far as you can afford. 512mb, 768mb, 1 gig. Whatever you can afford and whatever your PC BIOS will work with. Bazza

If its a built in modem, you should make sure you have all the latest chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturer.

Motherboard chipset drivers? Sorry, I'm not very techie. According to the specs I've been able to find for my machine, I have an Asus motherboard and the Intel 850 chipset. Is that what I'm looking for?

    Thanks for your help.
