Entering info on forms attachment

I was sent forms to fill out and return. They were sent as a pdf attachment.
I can open the forms, however when I try to use reply, I lost the attachments.
If I try enter any information on the form, nothing happens. If I move the file attachment to MS Word so I can edit or enter information, the form's format changes, and the copy loses all areas where information must be entered, and the pre-printed areas are pushed all together.
I can print the form in its correct format, however I do not find any instructions on using my all-in-one printer/copier/Scanner to load the form back onto my computer.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Skysarge

I have no idea if this would be useful but in the last post tgell gives a link to pdfzilla as a giveaway. Perhaps using it to convert to Word format may keep the formatting intact.

Downloaded the program and converted the attachment to word.
That was not 100% successful as the page seems to be compacted to fit the space.
Some of the instructions and areas to be filled in take more than one line and that causes material to print on top of lines below it.
I will play with the formatting and see if I can work around that.
Also, the download is a "trial," will convert a very limited amount, and the program sells for $29.95 on special.
For my purposes, without the conversion looking like the original, it is of little use to me. Under other circumstances it is probably a useful tool.
    Thanks for the lead,

I haven't looked at that software and have not had good luck on editing pdfs. :(

That should have been a giveaway--did you try entering the registration code?

Here are a couple of ideas. Again I have never tried them.

One thought is in your email program where you could not reply. Try using Forward instead and see if you keep the attachments and can edit them. (I don't know that you can edit in an mail program just giving an idea I just saw somewhere)

Forwarding did not enable me to enter anything.
I tried editing the form. I went to format and changed the print size. That was working, although a slow process. Then I got to a part that requires my signature.
If I could figure how to use my printer/scanner to upload (?) the form onto my computer I could try that avenue.
Anyway, it looks like I may take the form to the local library and use their typewriter, the have it faxed.
I have a dedicated DSL line for my computer, so I cannot send faxes (no dial tone), and if I cannot upload the finished form onto my computer I cannot email it.
    Oh well.
Thanks much for the ideas, greatly appreciated

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I tried editing a PDF not long ago and ran into the same sort of problems with the format changing.

So you printed out the forms you wanted to fill out and then cannot scan them back onto the computer? As far as I know scanning them into the computer would make them picture files--is this what you are trying to do? What model scanner/printer do you have-it should be able to perform this task.

    Hi,

I'm really not sure if I have any help here or not. I attached a copy of your scanners instructions for scanning but they are not very complete. Do you have the HP software installed? Maybe their options may be easier.

I'm going to experiment with one viewer that supposedly lets you edit forms but reading closely it may put watermarks in the corner.

I find it hard to believe that editing pdfs always requires fairly expensive software when so many people need it on such rare occasions that buying the software makes little sense but it seems to still be true. :(

The instructions did not work, all I got was a printed copy. Options other than"scan and print" or "scan to memory card" not on menu.
Will need to do some digging to see if I have a software disc any longer.
Because of very short time frame, am doing all forms manually. Should have gotten on this sooner.
Thanks for trying, appreciate your effort.

    Hi,

I've had no luck with finding pdf editing software for free and even little luck trying demo versions. They are difficult to get looking correct. [I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago and gave up and just retyped the forms in Word with my answers but I was mailing them in.]

I did find this as an alternative to using HP's software there are instructions for each version of Windows. They are from HP so I don't know how complete they are. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...tegory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3204464#N53
