    Hello-
My Artisan 810 firmware got updated somehow. The printer is approx. 5 yrs. old and has had a CISS on it since new. I am the original owner. The printer will not, all of a sudden, recognize ANY cartridges.
From my understanding, WIC Reset Utility can downgrade the firmware for the price of a key. I have already reset the waste ink counters with a key.
The question I have is what firmware downgrades are available within WIC Reset Utility?... The printer, I believe, came with firmware version 'LW28AC' and now has version 'LWO79C'. I wonder if it somehow got updated when I ran the WIC Reset Utility to reset the waste ink counters. :confused
    Thanks for any help.
    Regards-

Any? not even real Epson carts?
Do the CISS carts have a reset button?

    -NO...

Typical Epson. They sent a firmware update down the pipe, citing that upon agreeing with their Terms and Conditions I submit approval to said updates. There was a class action law suit against Epson on the basis of violation of Freedom of Rights- all about them forcing people to use THEIR consumables, in warranty or subsequent to. It's bullshit!

For $10, I can buy another key to roll back the firmware version to release
LW28AC, which was released 12DE10- about the time I bought the printer.
As far as the CISS reset chip, my system is 4 yrs. old and came with v5.5 chip release. inkproducts.com is sending me a new chip, v6.2.
Good luck getting new parts from an Epson Authorized Service Center- they will not sell parts to end point customers. Another scam! Another option would be to replace the main board in the printer, if one could get the part(s).

We live in the age of planned obsolescence and throw away products- which I'll not subscribe to.

    Thanks for the response.
    Cheers!

I have an Epson 800 & 837 I have a CISS with my 800 and right now I am dealing with the air in the lines going to the printhead, have you had that?

Yes. First, irregardless of what your CISS vendor tells you, the ink tanks should be elevated to the top of the printer. There is a check valve in the print head that will not allow ink to leak from the head. I have found that the Artisan 800 and up series printers will always have some trace of air in the lines. There is a way to purge the lines of all air, but it can get involved and I don't recommend it unless you are having an ongoing issue printing out a good nozzle check page. (Which I recommend doing once a week) Of further note, I recommend that you get rid of the waste ink pads in the bottom of the printer and fabricate and install an external waste ink tank. Pretty simple procedure. At some point your printer is going to shut down and you'll get a notice that 'parts inside your printer have reached the end of their service life'. Then, you'll have to buy ($10) a one time use key for the WIC Reset Utility and reset the counters.

I researched the CISS sources quite well and am very satisfied with inkproducts.com products. Tom has over 20 yrs. experience designing and manufacturing these systems and his dye based ink for the Epson Artisan series is at least as good as the Epson Claria HD ink. Plus, his personal support is outstanding.

There are some other nuances with the Artisan design, in terms of maintenance, that should be addressed. The timing belt(s) tension can go out of adjustment resulting in paper jams and pushing out more than one sheet of paper at a time. An e-manual for Epson Service is available as a download from 2manuals.com for about $12 (See links)

837 would be same manual as 810.

Hope this helps. Maybe tomorrow I'll get my firmware downgraded and new v6.2 chip installed.

    Cheers!
