For my Back Up program I have to have CDs with nothing on them - it does not overwrite. Since I oftern have several to use I am having to erase them individuallly. Is there a faster way? What about using a magnet to rub over it? Would that erase the data or would it damage the CD? Any suggestions?

Okay the magnet thing won't work...

So you have a CD-R if you use nero to erase your cd a quick erase it only took 20 secondes...

And i don't think you could overwrite a cd you have to erase them...

    Hope this help...

    Thanks, Clark.

I use SpeedyCD and it takes a bit longer. I was just hoping for a better way.

You can't record over on a cd...you have to erase a cd before you can overwrite!! No matter what the case....you have to have cd-rw in order to reuse them, and like I said...you have to either erase it, or if you choose not to close the session after you write to it...you can continue to add to it, until you do close the session, which does nothing but keep adding information onto the end until it fills the disc to it's maximum capacity, which is usually 700 megabytes!!

Cds do not work like tapes...they use a laser to write digital information to it, whereas a tape is magnetic, which is where you get the whole idea of erasing with a magnet!!

Hope that gives you a little more insight as to what you are doing!!

Thanks for your response. I have an external floppy drive that has a note on the outside that says to keep it away from a magnetic device so I thought that might be an indication that I could use a magnet.

For tapes and whatnot, using a floppy alone won't remove all the data. You would have to use a demagnitizer. It is rather a big device. Pretty cool to use, specially the big ones when reel to reel were popular....
