Erasing Hard Drive

I am a computer neebie so be patient!! lol
I have a computer that lost alot of files and a 'friend' tried to fix it but now I can't do ANYTHING on it. Someone told me I could erase or clear the entire hard drive and just start over. Is this right and is it difficult to do?

Can you explain Cannot do Anything? What can you get on the computer, or how far can you get? A little more info would help someone answer your problem.

I can only get to sign on where you put your user name and password, but when you click on the name it just sits there and goes no further...

 

if you use xp, and still have your sys disk, you could attempt a repair, its easy to do, and may save future problems.

 

Ok, Come on now...we need more info???

You get to sing in??? Sign into what???
Your system or your website server???

This could end up a easy fix!!!
