First and foremost, a huge thank you to everyone on the boards. I'm mainly a lurker, but I've learned so much from everyone here. I've searched for this topic, and didn't have much success, so I do apologize if this is a double post.

My girlfriend's laptop is using a Linksys wireless card. I had Panda Platinum installed, but deleted it as it was only a trial version, and we were just going to stay with AVG for the time being. Up until this point, she had been using the wireless card for about a year with no problem. After uninstalling Panda Platinum, (and eFax), all of a sudden she started getting that error message for the WLAN monitor. "10093: WSAStartup not performed".

Now, the laptop is operating on Windows 2000. Linksys tech says it's a Windows problem. I googled it, and found lots of references to this error, but the language is largely over my head, (especially trying the Google Groups feature). Having internet access is vitale to my girlfriend's business, and we just can't figure out how to solve this. Google results seem to elude to a Winsock.dll problem, and I've tried a couple of different things to fix this, but nothing seems to be working.

Thank you so much in advance for any help.

Have you tried to uninstall the Wireless Network Card and reinstall it again ?

I have not yet, although I will as soon as possible. My collection of backup disks is at my father's as he needed to reload a program.

Oh, and I do want to mention that it sems like it's more of a problem with Windows, something that a reinstall might not fix. Web pages talkinga bout this problem seem to reference winsock.dll, if that helps.

Try uninstalling TCP/IP and reinstalling it.

I'm sorry to ask this, but I'm truly quite a moron. How does one do that?

go to you network and dialup connections control panel.. right click on the network connection icon for your network and choose properties.. In the componenst list is TCP/IP.. select it and hit uninstall.. Take note of the settings of TCP/IP before you uninstall it. You may need the configuration again when you reinstall the TCP/IP PROTOCOL.

Well, I tried this, and it didn't work. She actually has 3 LANs currently setup, (although I'm sure the 3rd one listed is the one being used), and it didn't work. So, next up would be to try reinstalling Lynksis, but I'm still not totally sure how successful that might be.

Does anybody else have any ideas?

    Thank you.
