Hi i am a total ubuntu noob...i wanted to access ubuntu ext3 drive through Xp so i googled and found a page which described the installation of Ext2IFS_1_11a.exe.....so that the drive appears as an ext3 format in your XP system....the installation part involved assigning a drive letter to the ext3 drive so i named it 'z'....
    two screwup...
    1) couldn access the ext3 drive through xp
    2) when i tried booting up ubuntu it was reporting this error.....

    Any solution guys ?

how do you dual boot ?
is this error at your boot screen ?

i think your menu.lst has been 'changed' somehow in ubuntu

I've my OSes installed on separate HDD's so when my PC boots up i just press F11 to select which device to boot with.....i dont use a boot screen....i did it so that they were totally independent of each other....guess my screw up werent a factor i considered....well anyways when i select the HDD on which Ubuntu was installed it starts the GRUB thing and then suddenly shows the error message
    ERROR 15: file missing
is there anyway i can fix the menu.lst ie if that is the cause ?? Using the live cd or something ?

yes you can fix it with ubuntu live cd - but i don't use ubuntu (i use mandriva linux) and have never done it

first i would set your ubuntu drive to master and remove your windows drive - doing this will keep your windows drive safe - in case of any mishaps,
set your bios to boot from cd, then your ubuntu drive (when i take my linux drive out for some reason my bios doesn't detect my windows drive, so i have to manually set it:confused)

    then have a look here

as i said, i have never done it with ubuntu so i would see if anyone else posts with any other options
