Hi guys, you've been very helpful to me before. I have been having Error 403messages when trying to open email attachments ( of the sender-known-by-me, necessary-for-work variety). I also get the error when trying to go to links from certain websites I need to access.

I decided to work my way through the Malware Removal Guide as it helped so much before. I got to Step 4 but now I can't get to the CounterSpy or AVG Anti-Spyware links to download the tools to continue. I don't know if this is a malware problem or not. I'm on Windows XP and I have ZoneAlarm running all the time. For scans I normally run Spybot, AdAware and Symantec regularly but something's not allowing me to update AdAware though it has allowed me to update Symantec and Spybot. Thank you so much for your time.

I really doubt that this error is related to malware. Error 403 most frequently occurs when you try to directly acccess folders or pages on a website that does not allow direct access to the pages. They do not want you directly accessing their directory structure and want you to navigate the site by using link embedded on the web pages.

Please explain in more detail what your problem is. What exactly happens? Any error messages? Can you download any other programs (things that are not malware removal related)? Does CCleaner download? Do GetRunKey.zip and ShowNew.zip download?

Details... One example of what happens in email or on the internet: I am able to surf to artgumbo.org website. Then I am able to navigate (by clicking on Class Schedule link) to artgumbo.org/class_schedule.htm page. But when I click on "Supply list" link I get the http403 Forbidden error message. This is an IE page that comes up instead of the link I'm trying to navigate to. (I will attempt to attach a screen shot saved as a word doc.)

That example page I can't access is a .pdf file. First I tested for Reader problems by trying to open a .pdf file residing already on my computer, and have no problems opening it. I was able to do this both by clicking on the file on my computer (opened) and by opening the same file through navigating in the IE browser (opened).

I neglected to mention that I was able to run CCleaner because I had it on my hard drive already, but I was unable to access it through majorgeeks link. I get the same screen/error message as above (just a different address line.)

Same for GetRunKey.zip and ShowNew.zip. When trying to open either (the Attached File not the inline link) I get the message to type in my username and password, then I get the same error message in a new IE window.

Also trying to access through Mozilla Firefox. The same thing happens for the "Supply List" on the website described above, and when trying to download CCLeaner or GetRunKey.zip from majorgeeks, except the message in the new window that opens reads "This object has been blocked" (I will try to attach screenshot.)

Sounds to me like it is exactly what I said in my last message. Here is what I get if I try to access certain links on that page:

I'm not sure you are having malware issues! Have you flushed your IE & FireFox caches? Click the below and what do you get:

    Supply list.

Try disabling your firewall if you have one! What happens now? Read the below:

This may only be a problem because you did not click the remember me check box when you logged into Major Geeks! Make sure you check that box when logging in the first time. You should not have to login a second time to access attachments.
