Error Code 0X80070005

I am running windows 7, 64 bit on a new pc. I am trying to load yahoo widgets software on my pc. The program seems to install okay and then freezes at the license agreemant screen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times with the same results. When I uninstall the program I receive a dll unregistered server message. So I went to the directory in dos and ran regsvr32 to try and register the dll. When I ran the regsvr32 I got the Error Code 0X80070005. I have searched this forum, but have not seen a real solution to this problem. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

BTW, the reason I need to use the widget is I am a substitute teacher and the widget sounds an alert when sub jobs are available. Without the widget I don't have much of a chance at getting jobs.

0X80070005 is possibly caused by permission issue.
Run CMD as administrator.

Go Start and in "Start search" type in:
cmd
Hold SHIFT and CTRL keys, press Enter.

Then, run regsvr32 command.

 

I tried Broni and Halo;s suggestions without any luck. So I contacted Yahoo Widget support and this was their response:

"Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Widgets Customer Care.

I see from your email that you have not been able to accept the Yahoo!
Widgets License agreement.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but at this time we have escalated this to our Product Team for review. This is a known issue currently and we are working for a safe way to resolve the issue for our users.

I will tell you that we have one more option, but this is NOT recommended by Yahoo!. The following fix would require a Windows registry edit, which can be extremely dangerous to your PC if done incorrectly.

The problem is caused because we are unable to write the following key to the registry or set the version of the EULA correctly. The following location in the registry should contain a "string" value of "EULA" and a value data of "4.5.2". Only if you feel comfortable should you add or fix the following registry key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\WidgetEngine

Value name: EULA
Value data: 4.5.2

Once you've added this or corrected it to show 4.5.2, you can restart the Widget Engine and you should not be prompted for the EULA. Again, this is NOT recommended by Yahoo! as a fix for this issue. I just wanted to pass this along for your knowledge of what we are working on.

I hope this information has helped! We hope to have a safer fix soon, but again if you feel comfortable you can try this yourself."

I am little hesitant to try this "dangerous" fix. Does anybody know what damage I can do by trying this?

 

Since it involves only Yahoo related registry key, it doesn't look dangerous.
In any case, simply create new restore point before proceeding.
