error "default client not properly installed" XP

Of recent date when i am submitting a registration or form I am getting the messsage "default client not properly installed" and I can't submit the form.
My notebook is toshiba pent 4, 512 RAM, 1.9 ghz, mobile processor and windows home editon sp1 and there is a reason for that.

Everything has worked fine before and I have not added new proggys or made changes.

i have checke IE and:

Hot mail is M$ word
Email Outlook Express
News Groups Outlook Express
And at the bottom there is a green check mark beside IE should check to see whether it is the default browser.

I don't know what has caused this and i have browsed the net but can't see a solution so i thought that i should post.

I'm getting this error message as of today! I'm on XP Pro using Outlook (not Express), and suddenly my browser (IE latest) is trying to use Gmail as my default email even though the browser is set for Outlook! What's going on? I rebooted, updated my browser...still getting that stupid message.

Are you getting multiple instances of Internet Explorer opening with the error?

1. Open Internet Options, Programs tab.

2. From the E-mail dropdown list, choose another mail client and click Apply.

3. Re-do the procedure and set your preferred email client again.
