error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player

This just started happening about a week ago. I am stopped from playing any audio files in Media Player 11 with error code C00D10D1. I have attached the error msg and web help info which is not very helpful. I reinstalled Audigy drivers and also media Player to no avail. Curiously, I am able to play any audio file using Media Player if logged on as another user on the same PC?

I suspect something (codecs?) has been corrupted or are missing on the primary user setup but don't have a clue how to fix it. Googling has not produced a workable solution.


Any suggestions re this irksome problem?

update on this>>>played a movie and the sound was fine. But .wav's and other music files like .cda and winamp have a problem. the same files will play ok in Winamp??

What codec package do you have installed on your machine?

Try reinstalling the WMP codec package. Link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx

Also, try this:

MP3 Files - Troubleshooting Playback

Go to C:\Windows\System32\l3codeca.acm and rename the file to l3codeca.bak. Then open WMP and go to Help>>Check for Updates. This will re-download the decoder and place a new copy on your system. If that does not do it then go to Start | Run | Type “regsvr32.exe l3codeca.acm”

This link does not provide for XP downloads? also, my problem is not just with MP3's but all audio files. I am able to play a movie with sound in WMP.

NOTHING SUGGESTED HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM? I am puzzled why the WMP works for user #2 account but not primary user? Must be a registry problem?

any more ideas?
