    USB device not recognized:
One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance ...... etc.
This message keeps flashing like a neon sign and won't stop.

The other problem is ... there is nothing hooked up to the usb's on my computer.

I was using a USB driverless Data Transfer cable between two of my computers. Got out of my chair and tripped over the cord, jerking it out of the usb connection in my main computer while the program was running.

I know ... clumsy ... stupid ... I've told all of these things to myself already.

My wireless mouse stopped working (usb connected) so I am now using a ps2 mouse.:cry

Device Mgr says all my usb ports are enabled & working properly.
I have six USB's on the back of my computer
and two in the front, one of the front is where it was jerked out of.

I'm sure whoever has any advice will want more details and I will provide them.

    WinXP Pro SP2
    Intel Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz
    1.97GB of Ram

Sure hope someone can help. Thank you:)

I take it you have tried a cold boot?

Your almost a mind reader ... lol

I did shut down several times and the problem was not solved.
Then I shut down and completely unpluged everything, even the power cord. Waited a few and turned it back on.

No more error message and my wireless mouse is working again. I can't say what fixed the problem, but I am glad it corrected itself.

This might be useful to anyone with problems ... unplug it all ... walk away (before you get out the shotgun) ... and maybe, just maybe things will work out.

I still say computers have a mind of their own and its not always the operator.

    Thank you for your response.:wave

Glad to hear everything is working OK now. Often a cold boot is all that is required in cases like yours. ;)
