Not sure if this is the proper forum for this question but here goes....

For years my WMP (Windows Media Player) launched fine. I double click a .wmv, m4p, .mpg. It just worked.

For now it is not working. I get an error message, see attached file.

Does anyone have a clue as to how to fix this?

    Thanks much................

Thanks for the reply.... Unfortunately none of the instructions fixed my problem. I am running Windows 7 SP1 so I followed the directions for Windows 7.

Does anyone else have any idea as to how I can fix this issue?

    Thanks much...........

    This will reset WMP
Start > Run (or hold down the Windows Key and press R) and type:
    Code:
    msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerConfigurationDiagnostic
Press enter and follow the prompts to reset WMP.

    Ok..... I did this thing:
    msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerConfigurationDiagnostic

The message I got back was this:

Did you look at the detailed information link at the bottom of the message?

I did look at the detailed information. There were errors but I don't know how to fix them.

Have you checked the WMP settings/options for any anomalies?

It looks like there might be more results below in your screenshot, do any look useful?

Nothing preventing local play showing up there.

Back to the problem mp4, the server failure issue, could it be some DRM licensing problem? What can you tell from the Properties of the file?

my WMP does not work on ANY video files. No matter which video I try to run. I get the "Server Execution Failure" every time.

It's not failing to run on one file it's all of them/.

When I go to that site there is a lot of information. One of the tips is to type into the search programs and files line this; msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerConfigurationDiagnostic. It is to troubleshoot the Windows Media 12 program. When I do that and press enter I get an error with that program. If I do a run as admin, I get a box that asks for The passkey Provided by my support professional.

I don't know how to proceed from there.
