Error Message When Saving Windows Xp Registry Backup

    Hello.

When I backup Windows XP Registers via REGEDIT, the backup file is created: at least Windows Explorer shows it is there ... But a message appears and says: "it's not possible to export the file ... error when saving it - harddisk or file system are probably in error" (this is of course a free translation from my native language).

If a backup is created via Wise Registry Cleaner, the same message appears. But Registry Fix creates a backup, and no such message appears.

No such message appeared in the recent past when creating this backup via REGEDIT.

My computer seems to function properly. I ran CheckIt Diagnostics, which didn't point out any problems with my harddisk, memory and processor. I have Norton SystemsWorks Premier 2005 version 8.02 build 6. I regularly run One Button Checkup and WinDoctor. Sometimes they point out and correct a just a few very mild irregularities.

So, what is possibly amiss with my using REGEDIT to backup Windows Registers ?

Can I trust the backup file instead of this message ?

    My best regards,

    Dilermando

How much free space do you have?

When is the last time you checked your drive for errors?

    Hello Adrynalyne.

I have over 40 Gb of free space in my hardisk (nominal capacity = 80 Gb).

Yesterday I ran CheckIt Diagnostics (a tool available in Norton SystemWorks), no harddisk + memory + processor errors were detected.

I tried to defrag my disk using a tool in McAfee Internet Security Suite, but it says my harddisk doesn't need this for the moment.

I forgot to mention that sometimes my PC crashes during the boot process. So far, it has always managed to reboot sucessfully after such a crash. An Windows message reports my system recovered from a serious error, whose causes are unknown.

Those crashes made me wonder if my Windows Registers were in need of some cleansing & repair. In a previous post, I asked for advice about softwares that could be used for this. CCleaner and Wise Registry Cleaner were suggested. I'll try them after this Windows Registry backup bug is solved.

    Thank you for your help.
