I noticed this problem after i got my computer out the repair shop recently.I took it to the repair shop cuz I had a virus that was deleting a lot of files on my computer.when I got my computer back though,I noticed some programs wasnt working such as roboform, hijackthis, yahoo toolbar, adobe reader and a couple of other programs I cant think of right now.here's the error message I get when I try to open these programs:"the application failed to initialize properly(0xc0000005).click on ok to terminate the application."I also tried using hijackthis and when I try to open it,it has a big red x and it says unexpected error.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling these programs and Im still getting these same error messages.I know its not a virus or spyware cuz I just got my computer out the repair shop.I ran virus scans with antivir and scans with spybot and adware and it didnt find nothing.I cant even get hijackthis to work at all.
does anybody know how I can fix these problems?

    What OS are you running?

If you go into Control Panel and try to open Sounds or Multimedia Tools, do you get an error message too? If so, what is it?

So what was the report on your pc. What viruses did they fix?
What did they say about your program failures?

    Start>run>typein
    msconfig.

In the general tab is it set to
Normal start, diagnostic start or selective start?
What is ticked to start and what to not start in the startup tab?

Not sure why you didn't complain to the shop, or at least discuss it with them, when the pc came back 'fixed', but with faults.

The process of virus removal sometimes (often) dmamged other parts of the operating system, which requires subsequent fixing.

The virus can also persist in the system restore files so it is good practice to flush out all the system restore files after the system is working properly. Ask the shop if they have done this.

Meanwhile run the system file checker.
Get your Windows XP cd handy
    start>run>typein
    cmd
at the black screen which opens typein
sfc /scannow (note the double n)

Insert the windows cd if it asks

PS Windows XP is Windows NT, just version 5. So there may well be merit in Lev's link. Microsoft have not updated all their knowledge pages yet.

they did tell me that it would be some problems with the computer so they charged me less money.I still cursed them out anyway cuz my computer is not 100%.
I think they deleted the system restore files I made before I put it in the shop cuz when I got it back I seen all the restore I made before I put it in the shop was deleted.

I ran the system file checker. It said "Files that are required for windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache."I dont have the windows xp cd.when my father bought the computer windows xp was already installed and it didnt come with a cd.I had the computer for about 2 years now.I also tried what lev said but when i searched the computer couldnt find those folders. Is there anything else I can do to fix the problem?please reply when u get a chance.

If it said that there are some damaged/missing Windows system files. No wonder it doesn't work properly.

The good news is that any Windows XP cd of the same service pack or later will do so borrow one from a friend/school ......
This is perfectly legal and above board. Really your shop should have done this.
I keep a copy of Windows XP (and others) for this express purpose.
