So,today, while in the process of cleaning out old crap, I stumbled across a game from memory lane. I found Dogz 5 sitting in its case and decided to load it on my new laptop. Everything world swell until suddenly the program closed down and a message popped up:

Dogz 5 had to close. Could not find Resource
Resource ID=1020. This may be caused my low memory or lack of hard drive space.

Now, I know this is not true, because the laptop is relatively new, and my memory and hardrive are pretty much clean as a whistle aside from a few term papers I wrote and Bioshock. I have switched the compatibility of the game to Window XP ( I am currently running Windows 7). It didn't fix the problem. I have a patch for it, as well, but alas it too failed me.

I tried looking up the specific error code and received an answer about enabling IIS and Asp.net, which I have done, but it too didn't fix the problem. If any one could offer some help it would be much appreciated. I have run older games on this laptop with no problem, though they have all been deleted, and I can't seem to crack this one.

    Welcome to Major Geeks.

Did a search for that game.
Seems it runs on NT,98, or 2000.

Another site says that it WILL run on ME, XP.

Only needs 256MB RAM and 800MB of drive space.

Well, it seems that Ram and driver space are not the issue. Currently my laptop has 329 GB of unused driver space and 4 GB of Ram (3.8 gb usable), so it is impossible that the true cause of the error is in low memory or drive space. I have switched the compatibility of the game to XP ( with patch) and even to 98 and it still shows the message.

The game is installed and works for about 5-10 minutes before the message come up and the program closes.

    Hi

Try running the game as full administrator as its possible as Windows 7 has changed some of the security access to many folders, the game cannot access a particular folder, just right click the games shortcut and choose Run as Administrator.

*note while you maybe using the admin account in Windows 7, you are not a full administrator and have full access, this is by design as a security measure*

    Also whats your screen resolution?

I ran the program as Administrator and again no luck. My screen resolution currently is 1366x768 but the game has to be run on 1024x768.

Did you install the game as Administrator? Older versions of Windows gave every user full admin rights (they finally got smart about it in Vista, a decade after the rest of the world figured it out), and games written for them often will not install properly without full Administrator rights.

You would get that done using the method halo described, right-clicking and so forth. If that doesn't work, set the properties for every single .exe and application file on the installation disk to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows--pick one that is listed in the game's system requirements--then run the installer as Administrator again.
