I am trying to instal an I Spy School Days CD-Rom that my grandson got for his birthday, but I keep getting an error that says"Projector Skeleton has encountered a problem and needs to close." Dont know what to do about that one---anyone have any ideas ? My 5-year-old grandson doesnt understand why it is not working? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks-Michele:)

Welcome to MG's. I have moved your thread to the software forum. Possibly someone may be familiar with this program.

Which operating system are you using?

This thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=91558 seems to point to using compatibility mode to overcome the problem.

I don't use compatibility mode but about once a year so I hope someone with a bit more first hand knowledge can give step by step instructions as to the settings.

One other note that may or may not be relevant (just putting here so I don't forget it may be an issue): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314154

Operating system is Windows XP and I saw where someone was speaking of the compatibility mode, but the program does not leave a shortcut on the desktop and I cannot get into Properties, so here I am..............

OK, let's rule out that you have that particular video adapter (I doubt you do since I think this is a rather old program).

    Start>Run>type in devmgmt.msc
In the window that opens double-click Display Adapters and let us know what the name of your display adapter is.

For a quick check on Compatibility Mode with your program do you have a Shortcut to I Spy in Start>All Programs? Is it there that you tried right-clicking and could not get into Properties?

The display adapter name is Intel (r) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family.

Now for the compatibility mode, I can get into that mode for another I Spy game that has a shortcut on the desktop, but the one I am having a problem with wont put a shortcut on the desktop for me to even get into Properties. There is no shortcut to I Spy in Start>All Programs.
Thanks for any help, but dont stress yourself out over this.

It doesn't look like the Microsoft article is relevant other than needing to use compatibility mode.

You probably have more recent experience with comparability mode than I do.

I guess you could go to C:\Program Files and look for the I Spy folder then try to find the School Days program. You should be able to right-click the program (filename ending in .exe if you have extensions showing) and select Send To>Desktop to create a shortcut. Then try to use compatibility mode.

Getting new error messages now, Script error: Xtra not found "Display Res"
Now I am really confused. Think I will call it a night and try again tomorrow. Things are going from bad to really bad now. What happened to the first error message about the Projector Skeleton---I think there is something very strange about this CD-ROM.
    Thanks for your help-Michele

    Tomorrow is another day.

Is this new error after trying to create a shortcut and running in compatibility mode or just starting the program as you had previously?

I was reading the reviews. Here is a one star
Others report that having too much RAM in the computer causes problems for this software.

You might be able to gather something that will work, if you read some of the reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Spy-School-Da...ref=cm_cr_pr_fltrmsg?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0

    I found a support page http://support.scholastic.com/I_Spy_Series.asp

To answer your question--no I did not create a shortcut or run in compatibility mod. I just put in the CD-ROM again in hopes that a small miracle would have made it work. Still nothing.

The link to scholastic really helped a lot--I appreciate that response-I called the tech support and the guy confirmed that the software program was made for Windows 95 and you do have to adjust your compatibility mode in order for it to work. He is sending me the directions via email, so at least now I have a contact number to call back for help if need be. He suggested sticking to the most recent I Spy programs like Fun House or Mystery so as not to have that issue with the errors. Thanks so much for all your help, everyone--I really appreciate it.
    Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
