Error popup

I reinstalled Windows XP and now everytime I try to play a song with Windows Media Player, I get the following error popup -

"There is no sound card
You either do not have a sound card installed on your computer or it is not functioning properly. If you do not have a sound card installed, you must install one before you can listen to audio in a digital media file. If you do have a sound card installed, refer to its documentation to troubleshoot the problem.

Error ID = 0x80040256, Remedy ID = 0x00000000"

Can anyone suggest anything. please?! I've tried everything I can think of AND been online all day trying to find a solution. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

You should install service pack 2,and update your direct x.this is your driver:http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/getdriver.php so reinstall it.Good luck!!
