"error Saving The Document..."

    This is a LibreOffice (5.0.4.2) Writer question. I am using Windows 10 PRO and Firefox.
    Whenever I attempt to save a document, I receive the following error popup: "Error saving the document XYZ: Error creating object. Could not create backup copy."
    I posted this question on the LibreOffice Forums but that was 60 days ago and I have not received any responses.
    What do I do next to save my documents without the error message?

    Hi Carl

    I'm not a user of LibreOffice as I user Office 365 but judging by your error message, it could be an issue of the fact that LibreOffice has this bug and I have looked at its been around since 2014, but to solve it I'm going to guess a little what format are you saving the doc or file too so is this .doc .xls type formats?

    If you save native Libre Office doc does it save ok? and /or what format doc are you trying to save?
    What location on HDD are you saving too? (differential issue could be permissions)
    If you right click Libre Office and "run as administrator" do you get same error?

    No. To save .ods (spreadsheet) and .odt document).

    D;\MyDocuments\OpenOffice\LibreOpenOffice. D: drive is an additional (2 TB) HDD that I added to my system.

    I originally ran into this problem in 2014 which you remembered there was a bug about that time. In 2014 I found a solution to this problem but I don't remember the exact procedure. It had something to do with deleting the locked file, but that is all I remember. If you could provide any additional data about the bug, that might help me find the solution.

    My solution is to download/install Open Office. I wish I had a more specific answer.

    I am using Libre Office Fresh, 5.1.3 with no problems about saving anything, on Windows 10.
    https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/
    OpenOffice itself is a discontinued project. There is Apache OpenOffice and Oxygen Office Professional.

    Personally, I would suggest the OP do a clean uninstall of their current Libre Office and try LibreOffice Fresh.
