I am operating with Internet Explorer and Windows Xp. For years, I have been able to load an internet webpage and save it by selecting "File" then "Save As", which would open a pop up window confirming "Save as type: Web Page, complete :)*.htm;*.html). I would click to save and it would be saved to my directory by way of two things, the actual html file and then a folder for all the images of that page, as seen below:

I use these files so that I can work offline on my laptop. When I click the html page in that directory, the page will load including all the saved images on that web page as if I was online.

However, lately I am unable to save pages and only get an error when trying to. Take, for example, the page found at this link:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320174859960

I have ventured to the above link and clicked "File", then "Save as", and get this error:

I have tried endlessly to figure out how else to save this page so as to work on it off-line (including the images) but cannot. Has anybody else ran into this problem or know a work around or fix to this newly saddled dilema I have?

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

It might not be you; it might be the page and IE.
I rarely use IE but I fired it up. I tried it three times (each time I named the page something else, figuring maybe the name was too long) and in each case, it gets to about 80% and then I got the same error that you posted.
I then tried to save the page in FF and it downloaded with no problem and I was able to view it.
Then I fired up Opera. I always have three or four browsers on a computer. Again, Opera had no problem saving the file and I was able to view it.
If you have another browser, try it.

This problem occurs cause there is some 3rd paty code on the web site or the code is written using excel - any code using style sheets will cause this problem - *.css*. IE blocks css code and mant 3rd party codes foe security reasons. Using FF or Opera is one solution - another is using a command line program like wget. Using wget on the site you posted, you would open a command line window - type "wget -k -E http://blog.samroitman.com/2007/06/this-web-page-could-not-be-saved.html " press enter. the "-E" is option will change the extention to "html" if it isn't there, the "-k" other options are available such as "-K" saves a copy of the original page before converting, "-p" get all images, etc. needed to display HTML page. "-k" convert non-relative links to relative. I don't use these other options cause i don't want to create a filder and i don't find it makes that much of a difference. Saves the web page as a " html page " with no folders" :) Hope this helps :)
