Hey guys, im new here and am having a problem with outlook at work. I get the following error message when trying to open outlook

outlook.exe - Unable to locate Component
The apllication has failed to start because MAPI32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Im running XP Pro. Haven't tried a reinstall yet, was hoping there was an easy fix. Thanks for the help in advance.

    what version of outlook?

You could find the dll and copy it to the required locatoin and register it.. or you can run a repair on the office installation. Take your pick.

Oh, I forgot to mention...at first I was getting the following error message,

    outlook.exe - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 36 could not be located in the dynamic link library MAPI32.dll

I unchecked mozilla mail as my default mail client and that's when I got the error mentioned above.

Im running version 8.04...i was thinking of copying the file from another computer and pasting it into the office folder.

yeah...i have a file in the system folder called PFmapi32.dll, if I rename that one to mapi32.dll i get the following error,

The procedure entry point SMapLS could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll

if I leave the PF file alone and just copy mapi32.dll into the system folder I get the orginal error message,
The ordinal 36 could not be located in the dynamic link library MAPI32.dll
and it sets netscape back to the defual mail client.

run the install again from the CD. It's the easiest way.

ok, i copied mapi32.dll and mapisp32.exe from another computer onto this one. These seemed to be newer versions of the files and now it works. Thanks for the help.

Though what you've done seems to be the solution, going through the Microsoft Office Update may have picked these up - guessing here. Since these files have newer version, they may be part of a bigger "package" - update, security fix, SP, etc. This may open up some other problems farther down the road - hopefully not. :)
