Error while opening folders.

I recently bought an extra hard drive for more space and felt it was a good idea to reformat my old one since I was installing windows on the new one anyway. I installed windows XP Pro on them both and then downloaded all the updates. I had no problem untill about a week ago when I started to get errors when opening certain folders in my documents. I can open folders with .exe files, with .shtml and other web documents, with pictures, even game folders, but when i try to open a folder with .avi's and .mpg files i get a "Windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. The "data" i get when i click the link doesn't really help me much either.

Any help would be much appreciated, it doesn't stop me from playing the files, i can still ignore the error pop up double click the file and it plays, but the error gets annoying and closes the folder.

 

What is the size of those folders?

Do you have SP2 installed?

 

Umm, one of them is around 20 gigs and the other is around 50 gigs. And yes SP2 is installed.

 

Backup this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32

Then delete it.

See if that helps.

 

alrightie, well i deleted the InProcServer32 folder and i still got the error, so i deleted the whole {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E} folder and still got the error, so i restored them both.
