    Now this is really annoying.

I have the Windows XP installation CD on the drive. I go through the boot screen and make it boot from the CD. Then, it seems the install setup is about to begin.

Then, this error screen appears and everything freezes:

I'm trying to reinstall the OS because everything has been so buggy, errors all the time, so I want a clean start. It's proven to be quite difficult since even the reinstall is giving me trouble.

I hope somebody can help me

    Thanks in advance

I would test the memory. You can use this program to do that.

Let it run all night and see if any errors appear. This download is an image file so you will have to burn it as such. Just look in your burning software and see if you have something that says burn iso.

    Hi

I agree on the memory test to just make sure, but I would test only one stick at a time to narrow the faulting one down easier.

Also do you have a Compact Flash Card reader installed, is this a laptop or desktop as if its a desktop I would unplug the CF Card reader and see if Windows installs ok if a laptop not so easy unless its the mentioned Cardbus type, info here on error and why I suggested this.

I would try and install Xp on the PC with barebones hardware, so unplug any un-necassary hardware, Printer, soundcard unless built into motherboard, secondary HDDs (just leave the main C drive thats to have Windows installed on in) etc

Do also give us some hardware specs like make and model of PC if from HP, Dell etc or make and model of motherboard, CPU type and speed, Ram, graphic card etc

Is your Graphic card A PCI-E one?
What service pack level is your XP disk at? RTM, SP1, SP2 or SP3

as if you have specific PCI-E graphic cards they only like XP SP2 and can give this error, rare but can happen, so maybe it is worth slipstreaming your XP version into SP2 or SP3 at the least, I wrote the below guide a while back quickly for someone else here as to add pictures of the steps, do note SP3 for XP is out and the instructions work for it too, just the screenshots show SP2.

Then try installing this new XP + Sp2/3 disc again.

*do note since writing this SP3 is released and you can do the same with the SP3 Network install file to create a SP3 slipstream of your original XP CD and the Network SP3 file is SP3 Network Install File and follow the above guide.
