Error: "Windows cannot access the specified..."

Hey guys!

I have this annoying problem on my computer. Everytime I try to open certain exe files, I get the following message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

It's a game I'm trying to open, but it's happened to a few other exe's as well. I searched Google but didn't quite find the right solution. I tried system restore but it was no good .

I would greatly appreciate help!

What operating system is it?

If you have XP with SP2, then you need to right-click the file (.exe), properties, then click the unblock button.

I only learnt the hard way and tried everything else first, then stumbled on it.

 

I have full administrator rights. I'm the main computer administrator.

Also, I don't have SP2 .

Well if not then the other most likely cause would be a virus or worm like KillDientes, which can cause this "error".

Try the recommendations in the Spyware Forum and rule out any infection.
