error

    i was fiddling around with different boot screens (windows xp), and got the ntoskrnl.exe file corrupted. so I reloaded xp. now, I keep getting the error box with different programs trying to run. how can i get rid of this?

    uninstall spy bot? or check that it's not running at boot? or scanning real time?

    spybot isn't the only program its done it on. it also did it with TCActive (part of The Cleaner)

    did you merge partitions or something?

    no. it wouldn't let me boot after the ntoskrnl.exe deal (said it was missing or corrupt. well, it wasn't missing, but I guess I corrupted it. oh well). so I ran a system repair (i think) from the xp boot cd menu.

    have you tried reinstalling the apps in question?

    i'm fixing to do that and run a virus scan.

    I could send you a good copy of my ntoskrnl.exe if you want. If you know how to boot into safe mode and overwrite the current one. You have to do it in safe mode.

    Just PM me (as long as it is XP Pro)

    i've already reinstalled xp. so i'm up and running now. i just need to get rid of the error above.

    i reinstalled spybot and the cleaner, and I also ran a virus scan. i still get the error.

    wtf?!

    uninstall them.. clean the registry and try again.
     
  11. Do you need a special prog. to clean the registry? How is this done? :)

    CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    so I uninstalled the cleaner and spybot, downloaded and installed jv16, cleaned the registry, downloaded and installed spybot, still get the frickin' error while scanning. i also downloaded ad-aware, and it scans just fine.

    problem solved (so far)!

    turns out, that when I did my last format, my zip drive took drive letter C and my hard disk to F. so i changed my zip to B and now spybot scans w/o that error popping up. now if i could only change my hd to C w/o reformatting...
